Licht took over from Jeff Zucker as CNN’s chief executive last year, with a mission to remodel.Īnnouncing the event, to be held at St Anselm College on Wednesday 10 May, CNN said: “The former president and 2024 Republican presidential candidate will take questions from Collins and a live audience of New Hampshire Republican and undeclared voters who say they intend to vote in the New Hampshire Republican presidential primary.” Keith Olbermann, a Trump critic and former MSNBC host, said: “I think we can say Chris Licht’s conversion of CNN into a political and journalistic whorehouse is complete.” Judd Legum, author of the Popular Information newsletter, said: “First, CNN systematically purged anyone on the network who was deemed too anti-Trump. Describing the powerful impact that Duane's death had on him, Gregg explains how the band's decision to persevere came with a heavy price-for the band and for Gregg-as he fought a battle with substance abuse that led him to rehab eleven times before he finally cleaned up for good. From run-ins with the law to meeting girls on the road to experimenting with drugs, Gregg holds nothing back, while also speaking, for the first time, about the painful deaths of his brother, Duane, and bassist Berry Oakley. One of Publishers Weekly's Best Books of 2012Īs one of the greatest rock icons of all time, Gregg Allman has lived it all and then some. One of Rolling Stone Magazine's 25 Greatest Rock Memoirs of All Time My brother-in-law was visiting around that time, and he told me that he was about to acquire a golden retriever. I found them peculiar looking and charming in an idiosyncratic sort of way, but did not have access to one. When I wrote my first book, I had in mind that the story would include a dog, and the dog I had in mind was a bull terrier. Why did you put that bull terrier in all of your books? Well, that’s a bull terrier, and that’s probably more dog than I can handle at my age. So not like the one that you have in all of your books. Van Allsburg: You may hear some barking in the background because I have a new puppy. TIME caught up with Van Allsburg, 68, who continues to write children’s books to this day, ahead of this week’s release of the Jumanji reboot. His drawings are both realistic and uncanny, whether in black and white, sepia or color, and they take children on previously unimagined adventures. After bursting onto the picture book scene with 1979’s The Garden of Abdul Gasazi, he went on to win two Caldecott medals - for Jumanji(1981) and The Polar Express (1985) - both of which also became beloved films. Chris Van Allsburg is responsible for some of the most iconic stories and images of American childhood. The other sequel, Harriet the Spy Double Agent, is a bit better than Spies Again, because Harriet is more her old note-taking self and spends more time talking to Sport, who himself is going through his own turmoil what with his dad's new wife, being in love, and sprouting a few facial hairs. Also, it may have been less obvious what was going on with Ole Golly to a younger reader, but to me it was pretty predictable. Harriet Spies Again feels a little empty, as there is very little spying, note taking or interaction with Harriet's friends, and the whole Ole Golly reunion falls kind of flat. I had my doubts about the two sequels, each written by different authors after Louis Fitzhugh's too-soon death, but both did a fairly good job of staying true to the spirit of Harriet. I feel a certain loyalty to Harriet, since the original Harriet the Spy was one of my favorite books as a kid.
